Theatre Arts Musical Production

OUR END OF SCHOOL YEAR MUSICAL THEATRE PRODUCTION IS HERE! 

Directed by Ms. Bern

Join us for a heartwarming 70-minute performance of Annie Jr., the beloved musical based on the book by Thomas Meehan and inspired by the original Little Orphan Annie. Performed by Ms. Bern’s Period 4 Grade 11/12 Musical Theatre class, this vibrant production brings Annie’s optimism, courage, and unforgettable journey to life through energetic musical numbers and heartfelt storytelling. Perfect for audiences of all ages, this show celebrates hope, family, and the magic of theatre—don’t miss your chance to see these talented students shine on stage!

Graduation Preparation

On Monday, June 1st, in period 2, all grade 12 graduating students must attend the graduation assembly in the cafeteria. Students will receive their gown, two guest tickets, and information regarding the ceremony. On June 2, a letter will be sent to families with details regarding graduation, including how to purchase additional guest tickets. The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, June 24th at 7 PM.

 

Exams

Exams will take place from June 17 to June 23, and Exam Review Day is June 24th. 

Grade 12 exams will not be front loaded and will occur as per the schedule below which applies to all grades:  

Wednesday, June 17 - Period 1 exams

Thursday, June 18 - Period 2 exams

Friday, June 19 - Period 3 exams

Monday, June 22 - Period 4 exams

Tuesday, June 23 - Completion of Culminating Tasks 

Wednesday, June 24 - Exam Review Day (modified schedule - see below)

A link to the Exam Schedule has been shared with all students by their teachers.  All students have access to the Exam Schedule when they sign in with their GAPPS login.

All secondary students must participate in the final summative assessment(s). These assessments make up the final evaluation representing 30 percent of the student's report card grade. Students are expected to complete all final summative assessments at the place, date and time indicated by the teacher and by the examination schedule provided by the school. Students cannot leave early for vacations, employment, or other activities such as summer camps during the examination schedule.

 

Transition to the Trades - Thursday, June 4, 2026

YRDSB students and families are invited to attend an evening session for graduating students, presented by Supporting Ontario Youth (SOY), focused on exploring careers in the skilled trades.

The session will take place on Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Thornlea Secondary School.

Interested students and families are asked to complete the following Google Form to register by June 1, 2026. Please see this flyer for additional information.

 

International Education Services:  Exploring Post-Secondary Pathways with YRDSB

IES is holding a YRDSB University Mini Fair for International Students on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

This event is designed for international students in Grades 10 and 11 who are interested in learning more about Canadian universities, programs, admissions, scholarships, and student life.

Participating universities currently include the following:

McMaster University

Ontario Tech University

Queen's University

University of Toronto

University of Waterloo

Western University

Please register by Wednesday, June 10.

YRPC Elections - Voting is now open

Voting is now open for the 2026-2027 York Region Presidents' Council. YRPC is the official student senate of the York Region District School Board, with the mission of promoting and enhancing communication and cooperation, inspiring and fostering ethical leadership, and collecting the voices of secondary school students.

Students currently in Grades 9 to 11 can vote for the YRPC Executive Cabinet and Area Representatives. Students who are currently in Grade 12 are not eligible to vote. Voting is open Friday, May 29, 2026 and closes Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 6 p.m. 

Information on the candidates and how to vote has been sent to students' GAPPS accounts.
