Take Our Kids to Work Day
Take Our Kids to Work (TOKW) Day is a national initiative designed to provide Grade 9 students with invaluable insights into the world of work. It aims to assist students in considering future career paths by offering them the opportunity to observe a work environment for one day.
On Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Grade 9 students will have the opportunity to spend the day at a workplace of a parent/guardian, relative, friend or volunteer. Alternatively, students can choose career-related activities to explore either at home or within the school environment. It is a day dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding of various career options and pathways. The Students Commission of Canada is the organization that supports this program and offers resources for educators and students. The 2026 TOKW Day Theme is Different Perspectives, Shared Direction.
This day is treated like a field trip. Please complete this form https://forms.gle/T7HgrtKfU7HaR2Q16 by Friday, October 23, 2026.
Any questions, please reach out to Dr. Leatham, Vice-Principal (heather.leatham@yrdsb.ca).
Missed Photo Day
On Wednesday, October 21, students who missed getting their photo taken on Monday, September 14 will be called down to room 144 to have their photo taken.
Lockers
Students are kindly asked to make sure they close the lock on their assigned locker. If they need help with using the combination lock, they can visit the main office where a QR code has been posted to provide them with instructions.
Attendance Reminders
If your child will be absent for the day, you can email us at thornleass.attendance@yrdsb.ca.
If an absence is reported to you that you believe is an error, please contact the teacher directly (firstname.lastname@yrdsb.ca).
Please contact the office directly if your child needs to miss a period or part of the school day to attend an appointment (e.g. medical or dental). When a student is “signed out” from the main office, it is understood that they are leaving school property to attend an appointment as per the parent’s direct instructions. Parents/guardians may NOT sign a student out of a period to prepare for a test/task in another period. Students enrolled in classes must be in those classes for the full day in order to ensure supervision. Grade 12 students may attend the library for quiet study during their spare period.
