Take Our Kids to Work Day - November 5th
Take Our Kids to Work (TOKW) Day is a unique initiative designed to provide Grade 9 students with invaluable insights into the world of work. It aims to assist students in considering future career paths by offering them the opportunity to observe a work environment for one day.
On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, Grade 9 students will have the opportunity to spend the day at a workplace of a parent/guardian, relative, friend or volunteer. Alternatively, students can choose career-related activities to explore either at home or within the school environment. It is a day dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding of various career options and pathways. The Students Commission of Canada is the new organization that supports this program and offers resources for educators and students. The 2025 TOKW Day Theme is Lift Up the Future.
Grade 9 parents/guardians were sent a link to a Google Form to indicate what their student will be doing on that day. If you have not filled in the form, please do so as soon as possible as this is considered a field trip and attendance is taken based on Google Form submissions.
Take Our Grade 8s to High School - November 5th
Grade eight students from our family of schools will be visiting Thornlea while our grade nine students are attending Take Our Kids to Work Day. Students from our seven elementary schools will experience a day in the life of a grade nine student supported by TSAC and TWIC.
Grade 8 Open House - November 13
All families of grade eight students are invited to learn more about Thornlea at our Grade 8 Open House on Thursday, November 13th, starting at 6:30 PM with a plenary that will highlight our programming. Parents/guardians and students will have an opportunity to tour the school and speak with different departments about courses offered. This is a great opportunity to learn about our unique variety of academic program options: ACAM, French Immersion, STEM and Advanced Placement. We will have students available who speak many of the school languages to assist on tours.
