Student Success

Vision and Goal of the Student Success Team

The goal of the Student Success Team is to ensure that all students have the learning opportunities, experiences, and supports they need to be successful in school and beyond.

Services, Supports and Counseling

The Student Success Team works with individual students within all grade levels to provide a variety of supports: 

Student Advocacy and Mentorship

• Social, emotional and restorative support services.
• Mentoring and training to ensure student voice and advocacy.

​​Monitoring of Students

• ​Academic and Attendance monitoring and support.
• On-going credit salvaging and recovery.
• Credit recovery: Allowing students who did not achieve a passing grade to remediate the course focusing on the elements of the course in which they were unsuccessful

Transition Support

• Transition support for incoming students from our elementary schools
• Transition support as students entering the post-secondary destination of their choice.​

Community and Staff Development:

• Researching and developing best practices in collaboration with the community, community partners and school-wide personnel.

The Thornlea Learning Centre (TLC)

The heart of the Student Success Team is located within The Thornlea Learning Centre (TLC); which is housed in room 213. TLC is comprised of a dedicated team which includes a Child and Youth Worker, a Guidance Counselor and a Teacher who are assigned to the room to support students throughout the day.

Students may use TLC for:  

• the completion of work and assignments
• getting extra help in a particular subject
• recovering or salvaging a credit in a certain subject
• accessing social and emotional supports
• talking to a guidance counselor, a teacher or Child and Youth Worker
